The first volcanic eruption occurred 800,000 years ago. This eruption produced a caldera on the south side of the mountain which includes the Parapat and Porsea areas, North Sumatra.

The second eruption has a small force, occurred 500,000 years ago and formed a caldera on the north side, namely in the Silalahi and Haranggaol areas.

Meanwhile, the third eruption produced a caldera which became Lake Toba with the formation of Samosir Island in the middle. This incident occurred at 74,000 ago.
